2019 COLOURS

Pantone, the world’s leading authority on colour, has chosen Living Coral as its 2019 Colour of the Year. Vibrant and playful, Living Coral is a bright coral with golden undertones, infusing our often chaotic lives with comfort. It’s a joyful counterbalance to the onslaught of technology; a colour found in nature in the beauty of coral beneath the sea – glorious yet mellow, familiar yet elusive.

In our homes, Living Coral speaks to connection, intimacy and fun. It’s genuine, warm and sustaining – helping transform our homes into happy, welcoming retreats. While daring as a foundation colour, Living Coral is ideal for throw cushions, accent chair upholstery, curtains, table linens, towels and other accessories. Energize a powder room with Living Coral, it’s gorgeous with white and pale shades, or try an accent wall or even doors in this buoyant shade.

In contrast, Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year 2019 is Metropolitan – a cool, stylish grey that’s calming, sophisticated and decidedly neutral.

Beautiful and glamourous, Metropolitan is understated but never boring, creating a ‘soothing, impactful common ground’ for the foundation of a space. It is an ideal anchor colour, blending effortlessly with other neutrals, greens, blues (hint, especially navy!) and pastels as well as myriad wood finishes. It makes metallics shine more brightly…adds comfort to a modern kitchen…brings elegance to an entryway. Choose Metropolitan for sofas and sectionals, rugs, dining room chairs and investment pieces. Choose it for walls or trim, or my favourite, on ceilings. This colour is a classic!

2019 DESIGN TRENDS

There’s always so much excitement in the New Year as we update our homes. Here are three design trends from House & Home that we love – they’re doable, livable and affordable!

Pastels.

In 2019, you’ll see milky pastels being used as a neutrals, often replacing white. It’s confident, yet soft and subtle. Pastels are perfect when paired with warm rich neutrals and nude shades – or even black. In combination with warm metallic like brass and gold, the mood is bright, but still soft and easy-going.

Horizontal and vertical tufting called channeling is SO popular for 2019. You’ll see it on sofas, side chairs, dining room chairs, ottomans and headboards as well as wood furnishings. It’s a timeless, traditional look, updated for 2019 with a little edginess.

Statement Sofas.

Of course, a neutral-hued sofa will always be appropriate, but if ever there was a time to buy a show stopping sofa, it’s right now! 2019 is the year of the “it” sofa – the focal point of your living room, the wow factor! Embrace sofas with jewel or pastel tones, tufting (button or channel), metallic legs and arm accents, extravagant details and luxurious upholstery like velvet. Sofas have never been more unabashedly beautiful.
